The Mma Dinare Story

Named ‘Mma Dinare’, meaning Mother Buffalo in Setswana, this camp is all about warm hospitality, big game, and wide-open views of the southern Okavango Delta.

Located in a private 27,000-hectare plus concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, this stay overlooks the Gomoti River and its vast floodplain, which is a wildlife magnet. Raised canvas tents with panoramic views, solar-powered everything, and a beautifully crafted thatched main area face a humming vista where herds of buffalo, elephants, and red lechwe graze within view, and predators like lions and African wild dogs aren’t far behind.

Mma Dinare was intentionally designed to reflect the feminine spirit of the Delta — nurturing, wise, and deeply connected to the rhythms of the land. This is where comfort meets culture, and safari means more than sightings (even though there is no shortage of them here).

For years, this was a lightly traversed wilderness used only by the occasional researcher or hunter, plus the local communities, including nearby Sankuyo, who maintained strong ancestral ties to the land, using it traditionally for gathering, fishing, and spiritual practices.

Unlike many Delta camps that operate in fully private concessions, Mma Dinare lies in a community concession. That means it’s run in partnership with local communities, providing jobs, skills development, and real economic returns to the people who’ve lived with and protected this land for generations. From the guides to the chefs, the staff at Mma Dinare feel like a family. Many are from nearby villages and have grown up in the bush, giving you genuine storytelling, deep cultural insights, and a guiding style that’s as heartfelt as it is expert. Staying here, you’re part of a much bigger conservation story.

What our guests say about Mma Dinare Camp

Stunning wildlife right at camp.

What an amazing place in an immersive wildlife setting. The staff welcomed us with song and everyone was fabulous in attending to all our needs. The food was excellent. The tent had a breathtaking view onto the swamps, with gazelles and hippos during the day, and lion roar and hyena cries during the nights.

We stayed at Mma Dinare for 3 nights on our Honeymoon and could not rate it higher.

The Camp is situated on a beautiful bend in a river beside a clearing that sees a constant flow of game wandering past and through it, with elephants regularly browsing the trees and bushes beside our tent. The staff were extremely hospitable and welcoming and the food was excellent.

I want to return.

We loved this camp and could have happily stayed for much longer. The tent was wonderful with a good view and very comfortable bed. It was all amazingly clean. Loved the outdoor shower. The guide/drivers and spotter were amazing and all the staff at the camp were friendly, had a good sense of humour and were outstanding in their role.
